On September 8, 2025, Nepal was in shock. Anti-corruption protests erupted in Kathmandu and across the country, led predominantly by Generation Z and young citizens. Just days earlier, the government had ordered the shutdown of 26 social media platforms.

From NAG, 22 of our students joined the demonstrations, believing it would be a peaceful protest. Thankfully, they all returned home safely despite being exposed to tear gas. Nationwide, however, at least 72 people lost their lives—some still wearing their school uniforms and backpacks. More than 1,300 people required medical treatment in overcrowded hospitals that quickly ran out of resources.

On September 12, 2025, Honorable Sushila Karki, the first woman to hold this office, was inaugurated as interim prime minister. New elections are scheduled for March 5, 2026, raising hopes for political change and a better future for Nepal—and for our NAG children in a society with less corruption. Nicole shared this appeal:

“Dear Gen Z, make sure you get your voting card, and make sure you show up to vote. If you don’t, those who died will have died in vain.”

As schools reopened last week, NAG commemorates those who lost their lives standing up for a better Nepal.
